Two-colored daisies

William Underwood, 73, living in Cavendish, Suffolk (England), was surprised to discover a strange flower in the daisy garden of his home: a daisy with two colors, 1/2 yellow and 1/2 light pink.

" I have seen two different colored flowers grow from a tree trunk but have never seen a flower split in two colors exactly like this ," said William Underwood, a resourceful gardener for 40 years. said.

James Armitage, a botanist at the British Royal Gardening Association, said the bicolored flower is due to an extremely rare genetic change .

' This phenomenon may occur in a new period of flower development, maybe when the flower consists of only two cells. At that time, a mutated gene regulates the color of the flower, making another color appear. When the cell divides, half carries a new color and the other half has a specific color (yellow). Every year we see only a few such cases, 'said James Armitage.

The daisy was first born in China, about 2,500 years ago, and currently has about 650 species across Europe and Asia. This flower blooms brightly in the late summer and early autumn and often lives longer than other flowers in cold and wet weather.
