UNESCO promotes the development of open science

On April 6, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced the principles guiding policies to develop and promote access to open scientific information, while providing the Specific measures to effectively enforce these policies.

In order to meet the requirements of countries, in addition to strengthening the adaptability to open access to scientific and research information, the UNESCO Executive Committee also identified the provision of initial policy advice as Key priorities in guiding principles for developing and promoting open access to scientific and research information resources.

According to the UN, strengthening countries' capacity on open access is necessary but not enough to promote open access.

The new UNESCO guiding principles will meet the need to develop open access policies by governments as well as institutional and donor agencies, while helping institutions in countries to review their status. on access to scientific information and assistance in selecting open access policies that are appropriate for each country.

In addition, the above principles will also facilitate the open access policy of research funding agencies and institutions through integrating appropriate issues into the national research system.

UNESCO emphasizes the principles of non-statutory policy guidelines that are only intended to enable countries to develop knowledge-based policies and to strengthen the national scientific research system.

These principles are useful for both beginners and experienced people in the open-access world, helping policy makers, managers and researchers focus on developing policy on successive open close.

Open access is a focal point in UNESCO's function to provide universal access to information and knowledge.

UNESCO's open access program facilitates policy dialogue in member countries, sharing knowledge and best practices in the field of open access, building and sharing capabilities across countries through cooperation North-South and South-South to create knowledge societies for sustainable development.
