UNESCO conference on science and technology for sustainable development

After two working days (October 26 and 27), the Roundtable on Science and Technology for the Sustainable Development of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris passed. This is one of two roundtables held in the framework of the 34th General Assembly of UNESCO held from October 16 to November 3 in Paris.

The General Director of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura and the French Minister of the University and Research Valérie Pecresse conducted the conference, with representatives of nearly 100 member countries discussing major topics such as science and technology for sustainable development. ; challenges of the past and the future; developing international cooperation in developing science and technology management policies; UNESCO's priorities and guiding principles in this area for the period 2008-2013 .

Speaking at the conference, Ambassador, representative of the Vietnamese delegation next to UNESCO Van Nghia Dung affirmed that Vietnam's viewpoint always considers science and technology as a decisive factor, playing a key role in construction and protection of the country and the foundation and driving force for industrialization and modernization process, rapid and sustainable development of the country.

On this occasion, Vietnam asked UNESCO to promote its role in strengthening scientific and technological cooperation for sustainable development in the Mekong region, thereby contributing to finding solutions to potential conflicts. hidden in the use of water resources between countries in this region, increased exchange of research capacity and experts on sustainable development, while promoting partnerships between scientific and public communities technology with businesses and industries from there to solve emerging issues related to sustainable development.
