ASEAN Minister of Science and Technology Conference

From November 21 to 26, 2011, Vietnam will host and chair the 14th ASEAN Minister of Science and Technology (AMMST-14) Conference and the Scientific and Public Committee Conference. 62th ASEAN technology (COST-62) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The press conference introduced the program of the Conference held by the Ministry of Science and Technology this afternoon, November 16, 2011, in Hanoi.

The main content of the AMMST-14 and COST-62 Conference is to continue discussing issues to further strengthen cooperation on science and technology in the ASEAN region, towards building the ASEAN community by 2015 based on on three pillars: the political-security community (APSC), the economic community (AEC) and the social and cultural community (ACSC).

Topics to be discussed include: Assessing the results of cooperation in science and technology cooperation programs among ASEAN countries; Scientific and technological action plan for the period 2012-2017; Implementing the Krabi initiative "Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for a competitive, sustainable and integrated ASEAN"; Discuss new initiatives raised at the Conference as proposed by Thailand on establishing the Southeast Asia Nuclear Regulatory Authority Network (ASEANTOM), introducing the International Techmart Fair 2012 (International Techmart 2012) is expected to be held in the third quarter of 2012 in Hanoi.

According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien, this is an opportunity for us to continue to affirm Vietnam's role and position in the international arena after Vietnam has successfully demonstrated the ASEAN chairmanship. in 2010.

Moreover, Vietnam will assume the role of Chairman of ASEAN Science and Technology Committee for the 2011-2012 term, which will contribute to further strengthening Vietnam's role and promoting scientific and technological cooperation. between Vietnam and ASEAN in the context that ASEAN is increasingly promoting the integration process in all fields of politics, economy, socio-culture, science and technology.

Upon joining ASEAN in 1995, Vietnam participated in scientific and technological cooperation. Assigned by the Government to be the national focal point in this field of cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Technology has established the ASEAN Scientific and Technological Committee of Vietnam, with the participation of many ministries and sectors. (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment .) and scientific research institutes and universities throughout the country.
