Binh Dinh wants to build a space research center

Binh Dinh is consulting scientists to build a local Center for Research and Application of Aviation and Space Technology.

The content was mentioned in the workshop "Orientation for building a Center for Research and Application of Aviation and Space Technology in Binh Dinh Province" on November 21, organized by Binh Dinh Department of Science and Technology in coordination with the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE - Quy Nhon City).

According to experts, the orientation of building a Center for Research and Application of Aviation and Space Technology in Binh Dinh province is a bold but completely well-founded step, demonstrating a strategic vision in anticipating the high-tech development trend of the future.

Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Binh Dinh province Nguyen Huu Ha said that the orientation of building the Center for Research and Application of Aviation and Space Technology in Binh Dinh province (the Center) is the right step. This is also consistent with the Government's Strategy for Development and Application of Space Science and Technology to 2030 as well as the Action Program of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee.

According to experts, Binh Dinh has many advantages to develop research in aviation and space technology . The province currently has the Center for Scientific Discovery and Innovation - one of the largest scientific discovery complexes in Southeast Asia. The highlight is the Astronomical Observatory with an optical telescope with a tube diameter of 0.6 m, aperture f/6.5 - a type of telescope capable of carrying out research topics at the university and postgraduate levels. This is not only a research tool but also a bridge between basic and applied science.

In addition to the main telescope, the Observatory also has popular telescopes as well as many supporting machines to help observe the planets of the solar system and the galaxy. Binh Dinh's favorable geographical location with flat terrain, close to the sea - creates ideal conditions for building space research infrastructure.

In particular, ICISE plays the role of a "locomotive" connecting the world's leading scientists. The presence of specialized research groups such as the neutrino physics group of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Education (IFIRSE), along with support from technology corporations such as FPT and TMA, creates a multidimensional and dynamic scientific ecosystem.

Dr. Nguyen Quan, former Minister of Science and Technology and Chairman of the Vietnam Automation Association, emphasized the need to build a systematic development roadmap. The focus is not on scale, but on quality: prioritizing human resource development, focusing on practical applications such as national defense, resource management and disaster mitigation.

Professor Nguyen Dinh Duc, Vice President of the Vietnam Mechanical Engineering Association, suggested a unique direction - focusing on researching and manufacturing small satellites. This could be the technological "spearhead " that helps Binh Dinh make its own mark in space research.

Dr. Nguyen Trong Hien, SAGI Physics Group, proposed to form a space laboratory (SpaceLab) with a focus on human resource development and work from the bottom up, starting with technical tasks on a modest but essential scale.

The leader of the Department of Science and Technology said that from the experts' comments, the locality has identified a number of orientations for implementing the construction of the Center in line with the decisions of the Prime Minister and the Provincial People's Committee. The focus is on developing human resources, hiring a competent consulting unit to prepare reports, proposing specific management and financial mechanisms to facilitate research activities, international cooperation and attract high-quality experts.
