Unexpected discovery: The solar wind winds oxygen on Earth to the moon

Japanese scientists have discovered that a large amount of oxygen ions of the Earth's atmosphere are being sucked into the Moon every time the green planet lies between "Sister Hang" and the Sun.

The latest study answers the detection of oxygen mixed in the rock layer on the surface of the Moon.

According to Independent, every 5 days in the cycle around the Earth, the Moon enters orbit "puts" the Earth into the space between it and the Sun. During this time, the Moon passed by the Earth's magnetosphere. This is the area where the Earth's magnetosphere is swept by the Sun.

The results of the new analysis of the Japanese School of Anatomy and Exploration (SELENE) have found that, during this 5-day period, a large amount of oxygen ions on Earth have "fallen" like rain. down to the surface of the Moon.

In The Atlantic, astrophysicist Kentaro Terada, of Osaka University (Japan) explains: "The Earth's high atmosphere contains oxygen ions, which are easily washed away by the Sun's wind. and take it to the Moon, maybe a part of this oxygen ion "stuck" on the Moon and another part fell into the space between the planets . "

By analyzing data from satellites orbiting the Moon of Japan, scientists found that artificial satellites recorded the occurrence of large amounts of oxygen ions, but only for a period of 5 days. certain of each Moon cycle around the Earth. This phenomenon coincides with the time when the Moon is surrounded by the solar wind.

The magnetic field, which surrounds the Moon in the shape of a droplet, then stretches far beyond the Moon into a long tail, blocking this object from the solar radiation, but also pushing a portion of oxygen from the atmosphere land pops out.

The researchers believe that this is the most logical explanation for the fact that oxygen from Earth was discovered and in the rock on the Moon.
