Bad weather in the UK on the last day of 2006 made many new year celebration activities canceled.

The city of Newcastle canceled the fireworks program and Liverpool moved the fireworks day to January 5. The Belfast outdoor music show was also canceled. Glasgow's Hogmanay festival was also canceled, but the street party in Edinburgh will still be held as planned with the participation of the Pet Shop Boys band.

In the north of England, strong winds are projected to travel at more than 70 miles per hour. But despite the bad weather, many new year celebrations will still be organized as planned.

Meanwhile, a house at Aghalee in Armagh, Northern Ireland was badly damaged, but according to the agency Meteorology was caused by a tornado on noon Saturday 30 December.

The Belfast City Council said the decision to cancel the musical performance called Rock the Hall was scheduled to be broadcast live on television, purely for safety reasons.

The Meteorological Agency predicted a whirlwind moving at 80 miles an hour in the city of Belfast. Bands that plan to perform in outdoor concerts will now perform indoors and have no audience.

Glasgow's famous Hogmanay festival was canceled as planned to attract 25,000 people to join. In Scotland, an outdoor party planned to be held in Stirling was also canceled.

In London there will be a light show at South Bank on the banks of the River Thames, followed by a London Eye firework display.

London mayor Ken Livingstone, a spokesman for London's New Year's Day, said London's New Year celebrations will be planned.

Australian singer Kylie Minogue will open the UK performance of the Showgirl Homecoming tour at Wembley on New Year's Eve. She said this would be " the biggest party ever."
