Unprecedented footage of a suspected white shark mating scene
The white shark is one of the creatures of special interest because of its aggressive nature. However, the sex life and mating habits of this animal are still a mystery to this day.
The first image of the unusual interaction between a pair of white sharks.
Scientists are not sure how white sharks do it . Of course, no filmmaker has ever made it back to this process.
However, in July, the Atlantic Shark Conservation Foundation claimed to have recorded the first image of the unusual interaction between a pair of white sharks. However, they cannot be sure whether this is a mating act or not because there are no documents to confirm and control.
The video was recorded in the waters off Chatham, a town located at Cape Cape, Massachusetts (USA). In the clip, one shark approaches the other in an encounter that lasts no more than 2 seconds.
"We are currently looking more closely to determine if this is aggressive, defensive or mate-related behavior," said Greg Skomal, of the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries.
Research is still underway, so the final conclusion has not yet been made.
So far, what we know about the sex life of white sharks is that they reach sexual maturity quite late.
Over the course of an average of 70 years, male white sharks reach sexual maturity at age 26, females at 33 and gestation period of about 11 months.
