USA: Listening to an iPod when crossing a road will result in a fine of 100 USD
Under a new law under consideration, pedestrians, bicyclists or joggers listening to iPods when crossing New York streets will be fined $ 100.
The law was proposed by a Brooklyn senator, which under penalty of administrative penalties could also apply to cell phones, Blackberries, video games and other electronic devices.
" If you are using electronic devices when you cross the street, you will not be able to pay attention to the vehicles around you; and this will cause a great nuisance that requires legal intervention ," argued by Senator Carl Kruger, who proposed the argument.
Carl Kruger also recalled two fatal accidents by using electronic devices when crossing the street in Brooklyn. The first is a 21-year-old man who was hit by a bus while listening to music and crossing the street in September 2006. The second is also a 23-year-old man who died while listening to an iPod in January 2007.
It is expected that Carl Kruger's law will be discussed in the coming week.
