Vatican built solar homes
Pope Benedict XVI will become the first pope in the world to use solar energy for the Vatican.
Accordingly, the roof of Paul VI's auditorium will be replaced by photovoltaic batteries to convert sunlight into electricity, enough to light, heat and cool the room. This replacement will be implemented next year.
Last year, Pope Benedict XVI called on Christians not to waste the world's resources. He thinks that environmental damage is affecting the 'lives of the poor on earth'.
Pope Paul VI's auditorium over 6,000 seats was built in 1969, designed by Pier Luigi Nervi architect. The Vatican is currently considering installing solar panels on many other buildings, except for Basilica cathedral and some other historic sites.
