Video: Blue snow covers Russian city, causing people to be confused

Many people are confused when waking up and witnessing a class that covers the city of St Petersburg, the second largest city in Russia.

Some argue that it is caused by toxic chemicals in the atmosphere. Others claim that the recent destruction of the city's chemical pharmaceutical research institute has caused this phenomenon.

According to local media, experts say green snow may be the result of cobalt, a chemical element; or methylene blue, used in medical treatment.

The snow sample was taken to the lab for analysis and an investigation is underway to find out the real cause.

In February 2015, green snow also appeared in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. Surveys show that green is the result of food coloring used in the process of making Easter eggs. Color leaks into a plant's piping system and spreads everywhere.
