Video games support the treatment of children with chronic pain

Doctors in the US are making the most of the appeal of video games to offer a new treatment for children with chronic pain.

The reporter in Ottawa cited the research results of experts from the National Center for Child Health (NCMC) in Washington, United States, posted on the news website ctvnews.ca on April 24 stating the use of video games. During treatment for patients suffering from aches and pains, there were unexpected results.

The sick person not only gets "distracted" in the tests, helps to reduce the pain but also becomes much happier during the treatment process.

Experts say that like adults, children can develop pain, for some reason, such as accident or nerve damage. Many children suffer from daily pain in the bones of their legs, arms or some sensitive contact parts.

However, sometimes doctors also have difficulty asking children to locate pain or persuade them to move aching areas in the body and video games have been very helpful for this job.

NCMC psychologist, Angela Fletcher, said physiotherapy and rehabilitation are one of the first and effective treatments for patients with chronic pain. However, persuading patients to cooperate in treatment is extremely difficult because of the simple reason that most children do not want to have movement in the pain. Yet, through the process of experimenting with the majority of young patients, experts claim that video games can easily make them cooperate.

Fletcher added that the use of video games must also be done step by step. First, doctors must accurately determine the location and extent of pain, use appropriate games to exacerbate pain, and then adjust games to help patients slowly move. The area is in pain.
