Video: Japanese farmers reveal the secret of planting heart-shaped oranges

Thanks to the application of special shaping techniques, Japanese farmers are creating unique heart-shaped oranges in the hope of attracting more customers to prefer their products.

Techniques to help make heart-shaped oranges

The secret to creating heart-shaped oranges is to use a triangular homemade device .

The video shows that farmers in Yawatahama City in Ehime Prefecture in Japan are fastening the selected oranges inside the homemade device with a wooden V-bottomed structure and three metal splints on the top. Each such orange will then develop a mold and eventually have a heart shape.

Farmers revealed to NTV that they achieved a 60% success rate with the technology last year and released nearly 250 heart-shaped oranges. They hope this will help them sell more oranges.

Heart-shaped oranges are expected to " outdo " square watermelons on the market this Tet holiday and especially next year's Valentine's Day.
