Video: Mysterious under the ocean
For the first time the BBC has filmed what happened below a giant wave of the ocean. These are images that have never been recorded by the camera.
The impressive video was shot slowly and using a camera with a very high resolution. It will be announced in the South Pacific series, part of the BBC's natural history program.
For the first time, the film reveals the power hidden beneath a giant wave of up to 4m: it is the underground vortex created when the wave moves. And known, those swirls only appear once, though filmmakers have filmed all 10 different waves.
The wave was filmed off the coast of Pohnpei in the Caroline Islands, part of Micronesia. This is a famous place for international surfers.
To achieve the above video requires special skills and equipment. Australian famous cinematographer Bali Strickland, who specializes in professional surfers, struggled in the water when the wave surpassed him.
In addition, he used a high-speed, $ 100,000 camera, to capture the wave's speed at 20 times slower than usual and at high resolution.
