Video: See chimpanzees crying at the same time

Researchers have just published an unprecedented video about the reaction of a chimpanzee community in Zambia to the death of two members of the group. The video made the audience impressed that the primates also knew how to mourn the kind of dead people like humans.

According to National Geographic magazine, a 9-year-old male chimp was killed at the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage in Zambia last fall. These reserve managers discovered the bad animal's body for the first time near the camp's fence.

Camp Chimfunshi is home to a community of 43 chimpanzees with an area of nearly 80 hectares. This semi-wild area is protected by a fence system. Scientists often come here to study primates that are considered close relatives to humans.

Edwin van Leeuwen, a researcher at Max Planck Institute of Psychological Languages, said: " At the time we started recording, there were 2-3 chimpanzees appearing and within 17-18 minutes later. In that case, 36 - 38 chimpanzees actually had at least one visit or were very close to the dead dead body for 17 minutes. "

"We observed that the chimpanzees gathered in a very small space, around the dead homosexual. We have never seen these chimpanzees gather in such a small space as so or very orderly and calmly approaching each other or near the body of the dead animal , "added Katherine Cronin, another researcher at the Max Planck Institute .

The video recorded scenes of chimpanzees gently touching the body of the member who died, smelled and observed. Many members of the chimpanzee community at that time were suffering from a respiratory illness and you could actually hear some coughs. The autopsy identifies a 9-year-old chimp named Thomas who died of pneumonia.

Within about 2 minutes, a mother chimp also had a newborn daughter recently killed, carrying the body of her ill-fated child and stopping the male chimp's body about 1 meter. This mother chimp named Masya was the subject of a study published earlier this year in the journal Primates. A video recording from the previous day showed that Masya and one of her other daughters had examined the dead body of dead flesh. Other chimpanzees also participated in this activity.

Another interesting point is that a male chimpanzee visited Thomas's body at least 4 times, examined the corpse and got angry at a particular time. The chimp screamed and walked over Thomas's body very quickly. According to protected area managers, the male chimpanzee has a very close relationship with the dead animal and has taken care of Thomas for more than 4 years.

The team did not conclude that chimpanzees also mourned their homosexual death. However, they released an unprecedented video in the hope that other researchers would see it and have a chance to record similar scenes. Scientists are optimistic that the study of video data and evidence can help answer questions about relatives of primates with humans as well as whether they can have similar thoughts as ours. about death or not.
