Vietnam establishes an endangered pine species conservation area
On September 6, Dak Lak Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced the decision to establish a Management Board for the Species Conservation Area (also called Yew).
Mr. Tran Xuan Phuoc - officer of the Management Board of Historical, Cultural and Environmental Forests in Lak Lake was appointed to be the director of the Management Board of the Nature Reserve.
This is a non-business unit under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Management Board has legal status, its own seal and is allowed to open an account to operate. The head office of the Management Board is located in Tra Ksor village, Ea Ho commune, Krong Nang district.
Yew populations remain in Ea Ral commune, Ea H'leo district
Water pine or Thuy Tung (scientific name Glyptostrobus pensilis) is endemic, endangered and classified as strictly protected.
As noted, there are only three regions in the world and the existence of yew is Vietnam, China and Laos. Particularly in Vietnam, only Dak Lak province exists two yew populations: Ea Ral lake (Ea H'leo district) and Tra K Kơr special forest (Krong Nang district), the number is less than 200 trees.
Not long ago, the information of yew trees cure cancer caused the yew trees to be hunted aggressively, pushing the population of this precious plant into the danger of extinction.
The conservation area of the pine water habitat is responsible for managing, monitoring and long-term conservation of species and habitats of the pine populations in the province to maintain and aim to develop this population sustainably and serve research. saving science and life; preserving and maintaining natural and artificial living environment of water pine and support trees; organizing scientific research and scientific research activities; to associate and enter into joint ventures with domestic and foreign organizations and individuals to carry out tourist service activities and other services; international cooperation on research and conservation of habitat species in accordance with law.
