Vietnam has announced 11 standards for electric vehicle charging stations

The Ministry of Science and Technology said it has developed 11 Vietnamese standards (TCVN) on electric vehicle charging stations, including 9 standards on charging stations and 2 standards on electric vehicle battery exchange.

The information is stated in Official Dispatch No. 149 signed by Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat on January 18, responding to petitions from Binh Dinh voters and No. 148 responding to Thanh Hoa voters regarding the standard system. , technical regulations on electric vehicle charging stations. The question was asked by voters at the 6th session of the 15th National Assembly taking place in November 2023.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Science and Technology has developed and issued 11 TCVNs. These standards are built on the basis of equivalent standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The Ministry of Science and Technology is developing 18 standards related to electric vehicle charging stations and related electrical equipment such as charging heads, charging cables, and electric vehicle battery charging devices. In addition, the Ministry also amended and supplemented a number of articles of Circular 23 issued in 2013 regulating measurement for group 2 vehicles with the additional content "electric vehicle battery charging energy measuring device". This revised circular is expected to be issued in 2024.

The dispatch also mentioned that in the coming time, the Ministry of Science and Technology together with other ministries and branches will research and submit to competent authorities to promulgate policies to support investors in developing electric vehicle charging station infrastructure and encourage consumers. use this type of vehicle.

Currently in Vietnam there is no policy to support the development of a charging station network, so people's needs have not been met. At a seminar to promote electric vehicle development held in November 2023, Mr. Pham Hoai Chung, Deputy Director in charge of the Institute of Transport Strategy and Development, said that up to now, the country has 20,065 electric cars produced. Export, assembly and import are certified. This number will continue to grow in the near future, but the charging station system is very lacking.

There are many reasons why the development of charging stations is limited in Vietnam, such as the company having to spend its own money to build it at an expensive cost, leading to a long break-even time or the number of electric vehicles has not really exploded to create strength. suction for charging station suppliers. There are also other social and macro causes from the Government's policies.

There are currently 5 charging standards from Europe, America, Japan, China and global standards (including Europe, based on standards developed by Tesla) for 2 types of AC (alternating current) and DC (unidirectional) charging posts. . Accordingly, experts recommend that the Government needs to strongly support electric vehicle manufacturing companies, charging station suppliers and people, along with prioritizing charging infrastructure on roads with high traffic density. High. Finally, invest in power grid infrastructure to meet the requirements of expanding charging stations.
