Spyware and adware continue to be a pressing issue. 87% of respondents said their MTs had been harassed by spyware and adware. Along with the development of online advertising activities, in the past year, Vietnamese MT users are frequently harassed by spam and e-mail advertising in the country. In addition to taking time, causing discomfort to users, spam has become a real problem for both email systems of agencies / companies in Vietnam.

Besides, 35% of webmasters said their website was not attacked any time. Most network attacks over the past year have been distributed DDOS distributed denial of service attacks.

In 2005, there were 232 new viruses, adware and spyware detected in Vietnam, while 2004 was only 84 viruses.

Beware of "gentle" viruses

One difference of 2005 compared to previous years is that no virus intentionally destroys data on those infected by them. Perhaps so, 33% of respondents said they were not worried about virus problems. However, according to BKIS experts, it is not possible to neglect, the virus may not destroy the data, but they can silently steal information, then it will be much more dangerous. On the other hand, a "gentle" virus can become "killer" in just a moment because whether the virus destroys the data depends only on the psychology of the virus writer.

In 2005, many viruses took advantage of chat programs to spread, especially Yahoo Messenger. 40% of respondents said they would carefully ask again when someone sent a link while chatting with Yahoo Messenger. 37% decided to ignore all these links because of suspicion. However, up to 23% say that they will click on the link when they receive it, which is very dangerous. According to BKIS expert, do not click directly on the link when the source is unknown because it may be a trap for the virus to get into your MT.

It is difficult to determine the exact number of damage caused by the MT virus to users. BKIS has provided a calculation of damage based on the number of working days affected by the MT caused by the average daily income of the surveyed person.

Results: average damage is about 260,000 to 410,000 VND / year / MT users. According to this calculation, the damage of all the infected areas nationwide can reach tens or even hundreds of billion dong.
