The maker and distributor of Kaspersky Lab security software said on January 14 that it has identified a new computer virus aimed at attacking Eastern European countries.

According to Kaspersky Lab, the main goal of the virus is to target countries in Eastern Europe, former Soviet republics and Central Asian countries, but victims can be found all over the world. including Western Europe and North America.

In addition to diplomatic and government agencies in many countries, the virus also targets research institutes, nuclear and energy agencies, commercial organizations and aerospace.

Kaspersky Lab confirmed: "There is clear technical evidence that shows the attackers originated from Russian-speaking countries".

The company also said that the "Red October" virus has been operating at least since 2007, apparently collecting software-encoded data files that are used by a number of European Union (EU) and Organization agencies. North Atlantic military (NATO) use.

Kaspersky Lab detects that this "October Red" virus has a special mechanism called "revival" module hidden in Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office software, allowing hackers to access it again if it has been detected before and removed.
