Visual illusion: The culprit lurks causing a traffic accident

According to scientists, in addition to subjective causes such as drunkenness or loss of consciousness that can cause traffic accidents, visual illusion is one of the long-held perpetrators.

We often think that drunkenness, fatigue, drowsiness are one of the many causes of distraction, which can lead to traffic accidents.

But it is not rare that the culprit is the visual illusion caused by the blind spot of the human eye.

This kind of illusion makes the human eye focus too much on prominent large objects but ignores other potentially dangerous details.

To prove this illusion we will come up with an example. Focus on looking at the flashing green dot in the middle. After looking long enough, you will see that the gold dots around have disappeared and when you roll your eyes, it is still there.

This is called "motion-induced blindness".

According to scientists, mammalian eyes have a blind spot. This is the point where there are no light sensitive cells

With the above example, when focusing on the blinking blue point, the yellow spots gradually fall into the blind spot of the eye. However, blind spots are only temporary when it will reappear in just a moment.

There is also another explanation for blind spots that is the sensory overload phenomenon . When you push the brain to focus on the flashing blue point, the brain mechanism will identify the yellow dots as redundant information so remove them from your eyes.

Whatever interpretation, it is concluded that the limitations of our biological body will lead to human eyes or brain being unable to fully cover all problems and often overlook a lot of important details.

This visual illusion often appears in many situations of everyday life.

Not only is drunk, sleepy but visual illusion also leads to traffic accidents.

When typing, we often see clearly that we have typed correctly the spelling, but when we check it again, we still see errors that are missing or repeated words. This is because our eyes focus on reviewing the content and grammar of the sentence more than ignoring the small details such as punctuation and spelling.

In participating in traffic always requires high concentration, we often pay attention to roads, vehicles in front, traffic lights. So sometimes because of being so engrossed in looking at the traffic lights, the warning lights of other cars were ignored by our eyes.

In addition, we can easily ignore obstacles, potholes on the road or other things suddenly break through but our eyes cannot sweep.

Of course, traffic accidents will depend on many other factors, so the best thing about driving, each person should turn their eyes to look at the areas we think may happen. Unbelievable doubts such as intersections, under construction areas, narrow alleys, high-speed roads, etc.

We all believe that our senses reflect everything that exists in life into the brain.

In fact the brain also has its own operating capacity and will choose what to receive and what does not need to be received. So the objective world is not captured by us at all.

This is also partly because of the limited ability of our eyes to see only visible light with a wavelength of 312nm to 1,050nm in the spectrum.

And the human eye is supposed to see only a certain part of the world that exists.

Our senses are also inferior to all kinds of things, which also explains the phenomenon of imminent tsunamis, earthquakes that we do not know but the animals can feel before that.
