In 2011, from the free funding of the Biogas group project (belonging to BAJ Japan), the ward of Thuy Xuan area (Hue City) implemented the program of producing biogas from garbage.

The initial purpose of the project is to generate fuel, lighting daily household appliances, and solving environmental pollution, saving living costs. Successful operation and economic efficiency, a Thuy Xuan ward official also suggested using Biogas to light the streets far away from the ward center at night.

The person 'initiating' this is Mr. Dong Sy Toan, Chairman of Thuy Xuan Ward People's Committee. 'At night, the source of production gas from the Biogas tunnels in the population is almost no longer used for family activities, taking advantage of lighting up the streets is appropriate. So far, many households have agreed to respond , 'Toan said.

After a short time of public lighting applications, from the initial 9 households involved, dozens of other families also voluntarily connected gas sources from their homes to lighting public areas, instead of electricity.

The head lights, gas pipes, Biogas gas burners invested by the ward are free of charge, worth less than VND500,000 for each set of lighting equipment. According to many people in Thuy Xuan, using Biogas energy, each family saves about 500 thousand VND .

Using biogas energy for public lighting also saves the state budget tens of billions of dong on each street, due to the cost of investing and maintaining street lights with high-voltage high-voltage electricity.

'Investing in biogas plants, people have more fertilizer sources for agricultural production. Pollution from livestock waste, domestic waste is significantly limited. People's awareness of environmental protection is increasing. In particular, since the 'biogas electric lamp' lit the street, people were relieved when traveling in the evening, ' said Nguyen Van Tuan (resident of Group 2, Thuy Xuan).

Up to now, nearly 300 households in Thuy Xuan ward continue to apply for registration with ward leaders to invest in new gas production tunnels made from household waste and animal waste.

'Investment of the ward to the people is limited, we continue to seek and enlist funding from domestic and foreign organizations to serve the needs of the people. Hopefully, after Thuy Xuan ward, many localities along Hue city and rural areas will replicate this model, ' Toan said.
