What is yew tree that is expensive and rare?

It is known that a piece of yew wood with 1m2 long, 80cm diameter has cost about 250 million dong; So what is the precious yew tree that is so expensive?

The yew tree , the scientific name is Glyptostrobus pensilis , also known as water circulation . Yew tree belongs to 'group IA' , endemic species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and classified as in need of strict protection. There are 3 countries in the world that have recorded this species as China, Laos and Vietnam.

In Vietnam, Yew only distributes two natural populations in Dak Lak including Ea Ral commune, Ea H'leo district 140 trees, Ea Ho commune, Krong Nang district 21 trees and 1 tree in Buon Ho town.

Currently, the amount of water pine (yew) is only about 100 trees.

Yew wood is a good wood, has a fragrant smell, fine grain, and does not suffer from termite, chapped, warped. Easy-to-process, porous and light yew wood should be used for hats, cork and thermos, life buoys .

Yew wood exists in the market including two forms: green yew and red yew , each with different characteristics.

1. Green yew wood is located in the mud, moist environment has made the wood block turn into natural black green color extremely beautiful. Green yew is often located deep in the Central Highlands, or even under the hydropower reservoir, so it is difficult to exploit.
2. Red pine wood is a kind of living in a dry environment. Red parts are red and dark brown. The red parts of the yew tree are usually small and occasionally point dark spots on the body of the wood block.

Red Tung is mainly processed into water hyacinth, a few are Maitreya statues and wooden collapses. Prices of products from red yew are relatively high, from several tens of millions to hundreds of millions.

According to feng shui, yew wood has a prosperous effect, so the leading Vietnamese artisans often use this type of wood to make water hyacinth or sculpt statues with the meaning of bringing peace and luck to the family.

Leaf shoots and ripe hats are also used as rheumatism, pain relief, skin tightening. The tree is beautiful, can be planted as a landscape or planted along the lake pond to keep the soil and prevent erosion.
