Why is it difficult to attract people to live on this beautiful island, which has houses provided by the government for 20,000 USD?

The most beautiful landscape in Greece but very few people live here, the government has to pay to get more people to come here .

This special island, called Antikythera , is located on the edge of the Aegean Sea between Crete and the Peloponnesian Peninsula. Anyone who wants to move here will be given a house and a monthly stipend for three consecutive years.

The Greek government will pay you thousands of dollars if you are willing to move to one of the most beautiful islands in the country. Specifically, each family coming here to live will be sponsored up to 20,000 USD, with housing provided. However, life here also has certain difficulties.

To date, Antikythera has sponsored four families to live there, but the island still needs new residents.

Little paradise on earth

The Greek government implemented this unique policy to stimulate the regional economy and breathe new life into the island community, as the island is currently quite deserted.

Currently, there are only 68 people living on the island, so it is quite quiet. And because there are so few people, there are no grocery stores, gas stations, or taxis. Almost everything the islanders need to survive on the island comes from boats, including food and fuel. In the winter, life can be difficult if the supply boats do not arrive due to rough seas, which is often the case.

Despite its remoteness, the island is considered by some to be a paradise. 'There is no other place in the world where you can find such absolute peace and quiet as here,' said Giannis Tzinakos, a retired Greek Air Force general who now spends much of his time on Antikythera.

The island is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. A number of Greek and foreign tourists also choose this island as an ideal destination for quiet holidays.

There are also some stunning, isolated sand and pebble beaches on Antikythera, not to be missed for those who want to truly escape reality and immerse themselves in nature.

The island has a rich history

The island's history dates back to ancient times. The first inhabitants of Antikythera are believed to have been the Dolopes, followed by the Dryopes and Cretans.

The Romans banished their disobedient subjects to Antikythera, while later the island became a den of pirates.

Aside from its charm and stunning isolation, Antikythera Island is famous as the site of two of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries made in the 20th century.

In the early 20th century, two bronze objects of particular archaeological value were found off the coast of Antikythera: One, the 'Antikythera Youth', dating from 340 BC, was found in 1900 by sponge divers. And another, considered to be the first computer, used for astronomical and chronological calculations. Estimated to date from around 80 BC, it was found in 1901 by divers exploring a nearby shipwreck.

In fact, this island is not the only place where people will be paid to live. Italy is doing the same thing. The government is offering up to $52,000 to people who want to move to the second largest island in the Mediterranean, Sardinia. It is estimated that the total cost of attracting residents here is up to $45 million.
