Why should young giraffes get up right at birth?
Within 30 minutes after leaving the womb, young giraffes must do their best to get up to get ready to flee predators.
The giraffe must start walking as soon as it leaves the womb.
With wild predators, young giraffes are in great danger at birth. So they have to start walking as soon as they leave the womb.
Juveniles are usually true within 30 minutes after birth. Research shows that half of young giraffes become prey for hyenas, lions and many other predators. The number of juvenile giraffes increased in areas with a high density of predators.
Juveniles can run faster than adult deer but they are still safest when moms look after them.
