Archaeologists have discovered a 5-year-old " superbly preserved " door in the Swiss city of Zurich.
The door of 5,100 years old is almost intact (Photo: AP). Niels Bleicher, head of the archeology team, said the door could have been made in 3,063 BC.
This is one of the oldest doors ever found in Europe and it is worth noting ' because the way the logs are joined together, ' Mr. Bleicher said.
The door is 153cm high, 88cm wide. It is one of the vestiges of the existence of at least 5 Neolithic villages in the region.
Bleicher said the door was made of common wood, ' thick and smooth ', with an intact hinge.
This door may be part of a wooden stilt house, to avoid the cold wind blowing from Lake Zurich. ' It's a very smart design ,' commented archaeologist Bleicher.
Archaeologists are expected to display the door when it is brought out of the ground and immersed in a special solution to avoid rotting.
