WWF: The Mediterranean is about to become

In a report calling for measures to clean up one of the world's most polluted seas, WWF World Organization on June 8 warned that the Mediterranean is becoming "the sea of ​​plastic".

According to WWF, the Mediterranean has kept a record of "" - plastic pieces smaller than 5mm. This type of plastic tends to increase in the food chain, threatening human health.

The WWF report said that the density of plastic particles is nearly four times higher than other seas in the world.

The reason is that plastic has become an indispensable part of our daily life, while recycling only accounts for 1/3 of the waste in Europe in particular.

Reportedly, plastics present 95% of floating waste in the Mediterranean and its beaches. Most of this waste comes from Turkey and Spain, along with Italy, Egypt and France.

To solve this problem, WWF proposed an international agreement to reduce disposal and help each other clean up the plastic in the ocean.

In addition, Mediterranean countries should enhance recycling of plastic waste, prohibiting the use of disposable plastic products such as plastic bags or bottles .

The plastic industry itself should develop recycled products made from renewable materials rather than petroleum-based chemicals.

WWF believes that each individual person should also be responsible for making appropriate choices in the use of alternative wood products for plastic.
