Xbox Live gamers hacked
Microsoft yesterday (March 20) said it was investigating the status of Xbox Live gamers being scammed and stolen accounts.
The investigation began after a number of Xbox Live gamers announced that a dedicated game and credit card account for Microsoft Points - Xbox Live currency - was stolen.
" We recently received a number of notifications about fraudulent account hijacking taking place on the Xbox Live service network ," the Microsoft representative said. " Security is our top priority for the Xbox Live service network. We are currently actively investigating the above reports ."
Gamers have repeatedly announced cases of fraud and account hacking on Microsoft's online support forum. Many gamers are still upset when Microsoft reacts very slowly.
Even security researcher Kevin Finisterre had to win some Halo games with some friends after they were threatened by some opponents to hack accounts.
"The next day my daughter's account was locked. I received a notice from the Xbox that I couldn't log in because someone had used my daughter's Gamertag ." (Gamertag is the Xbox Live account name).
Some users claim that there is some security hole in Xbox Live being exploited. Some people believe that users have been tricked into providing enough information to someone in the game and that person has called Microsoft to change the information. Or Xbox Live gamer has become a victim of email fraud.
