Build a billion-dollar artificial island to ... collect wind power

Wind is changing the way people use renewable energy. Many countries around the world are increasingly finding more creative ways to develop wind power, including the construction of artificial islands.

Currently, the two most common sources come from solar and wind power . However, both of these sources require countries to invest in open and spacious areas to set up infrastructure for creation. The areas where we can actually build a wind farm are extremely expensive and rare. Therefore, an energy and power network organization in the Netherlands called TenneT is planning to build ways to cut costs but still get an effective amount of wind.

Farms are not built on water but are located on a shallow area in the North Sea region called. 125km from the East Coast of Yorkshire, Dogger Bank is considered a place with abundant wind resources. According to the initial survey, the Dogger Bank project has a lot of potential because it is one of the first effective offshore wind farms in the world. But what makes this project special and practical is the artificial island built in the North Sea.

This artificial island will serve as a hub of offshore wind farms and it is larger than the largest wind farm in the world currently located in Gansu, China. TenneT company plans to have Dogger Bank project able to collect wind with up to 30GW effort. Moreover, representatives of TenneT said that by investing in this wind island, they would have the necessary motivation to continue lowering the price of wind power.

Rob van der Hage, director of TenneT's offshore wind development program, told the newspaper: "It is imperative in that industry to be consistent with the way to reduce the cost of your products. more users, a major challenge that we faced during the period 2030-2035 is that the onshore wind gathering is hampered by objections from local people, and also Many wind farms are near the shore, therefore, it is reasonable and necessary to search for offshore wind sources. '

Dogger Bank is not a pioneer in the proposal to build offshore wind farms. A similar plan has been introduced by Denmark's largest energy company to the UK. Meanwhile, Scotland recently opened wind farms that can float on the first water in the world. But TenneT's project is different in that they have a completely new plan for managing wind energy created by the farm.

The central island wind farm will collect energy from wind turbines through short cables. The electricity generated from the wind is then converted into direct current. This saves electricity from long-distance trips to the Netherlands and the UK - perhaps even Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Norway. The company will use alternating long-distance cables - allowing transmission to any country in need at any time. All will ensure stable energy generation and reasonable prices, especially no wasted electricity.

Van der Hage added: "Is it difficult to do what we want? We see in the Netherlands, when we come across a water immediately we want to build islands on it or turn "We have done it for centuries and they have become so familiar, so this problem is not the biggest challenge for our company."

Tennet Company is not alone in this project. The burden to build an artificial island with hundreds of wind turbines will be shared by developers of offshore wind farms like Denmark's Øcrsted and German Innogy. Tennet will contribute about 1.8 billion dollars to build the island.
