Japan builds an offshore wind power plant

Japan yesterday started the first turbine in the offshore wind power plant complex, 20km from the coast of Fukushima Prefecture.

The 2MW wind turbine is officially launched yesterday with a depth of 120m. Wind farm turbines are connected to a floating generator with a capacity of 66 KV and a high voltage submarine cable.

According to the AP, the offshore wind power complex was put into operation by Japan to provide the power grid that is associated with the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

The wind power complex is expected to have a generation capacity of 1GW with 143 turbines and play a key role in supplying energy to the heavily affected area of the earthquake and tsunami in March / 2011, causing nuclear power plants to stop working.

"A lot of people have become victims and injured by accidents at the nuclear power plant. Therefore, a wind power complex built in this area to create a new energy source is public. The course is very meaningful, " said Kazuyoshi Akaba, Japanese Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The complex, also known as wind farm, also expressed the desire to optimize Japan's advanced energy technology, from cleaner energy versions of power plants using coal and oil. conventional mines or gas, to renewable energy sources and nuclear power.

With the main advantage of the coastline surrounded by deep waters, in accordance with the construction of wind power turbines that need to be plugged in at depths of more than 50m above sea level, Japan is at the forefront style in the field of creating this new energy source.

In theory, Japan has the potential to produce electricity with a capacity of 1,600 GW from wind power, mostly offshore. Dozens of wind power projects are under construction in this country, from Kyushu in the south to Hokkaido in the north.

So far, all 50 unspoiled nuclear reactors in Japan have to stop working to check the safety after disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. The construction of wind farms will provide energy for areas severely affected after the nuclear reactors are closed.
