Put into operation the world's largest sea wind power plant
Walney wind power plant off the coast of Cumbria (United Kingdom) has just officially opened.
Walney power plant on the sea
With 102 bungalows spread over an area of 73km 2 on the sea for a maximum production capacity of 367.2MW of electricity, Walney is said to be the world's largest sea wind power plant. With this capacity, Walney could provide enough electricity for about 320,000 households - half of Cumbria's population.
Walney power plant is divided into two clusters: Walney 1 and Walney 2. Walney 1 consists of 51 tuocbin 137m high. Each turbine has a rotational diameter of 107m. Walney 2 also has 51 cells but has a height of 150m.
Each turbine has three 18-ton propellers, a diameter of 120m. Although there is a difference in turbine size between two clusters, the capacity of each turbine is 3.6MW.
