The largest solar power plant comes into operation
The world's largest solar-powered power plant, designed and built by Austrian companies, was officially put into operation in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh capital after six months of trial operation.

This solar power plant in Riyadh was designed and built by AEE INTEC Research Institute and GREENoneTEC for Saudi Arabia for € 3.6 billion (4.72 billion USD).

The power plant was installed with solar panels with a total area of 36,000m 2 , capable of supplying hot water to 40,000 students and lecturers of the University of Noura Bint Abdulraman.
Austrian Minister of Transport, Invention and Technology Doris Bures said the factory is a proof of the successful promotion of Austrian technology innovation company abroad.
Bures said one-third of the solar panels used in the European Union (EU) were imported from Austria. This Central European country exports about 80% of the domestic solar panels and this number has increased four times in the last five years.
She claimed to be encouraged by promising data, Austria plans to meet the entire demand for hot water on the domestic market by solar energy by 2025.
