At exactly 16 pm May 29, 2013, Vietnam's first sea wind power in Bac Lieu began to merge into the national grid.

It is the current generated from a first turbine with a capacity of about 1.6MW (Mega-oat) among the 10 turbines of Phase 1 of the Bac Lieu Wind Power Project. Other turbines will generate electricity and integrate into the national grid from the moment until June 7, 2013.

The above memorable moments followed by a longer period of 30 months of urgent construction include many complex stages, from the construction of marine turbine pillars to construction, adjustment, commissioning of the entire substation system. transmission lines bring power from the turbines to the national grid.

Bac Lieu wind power plant project is divided into 2 phases. In the first phase, the installation of 10 turbine columns was completed, the total capacity of this phase was 16MW and the production power estimated at 56 million kWh / year was close to the output of 30 turbines of the provincial wind power plant. Ninh Thuận.

Phase 2 of the project will build the remaining 52 turbines. After completion, Bac Lieu wind power plant will have a total of 62 turbines with a total capacity of over 99MW and electricity produced about 320 million kWh / year.

The whole Bac Lieu wind power plant is located along the East Sea dyke, extending from Nha Mat ward to the boundary of Soc Trang province and the total area is nearly 500 ha.

The turbines in this factory are manufactured in the United States. Special stainless steel column, 80m high, 4m in diameter. Each turbine has 3 propellers, each 42m long, made of special plastic, has a control system to help the propeller fold itself when it meets bad weather and big storms.

Bac Lieu wind power plant uses the most advanced technology in Vietnam and is the only marine construction plant today.

The project has an investment capital of about VND 5,200 billion and is invested by Cong Ly Construction - Trading and Tourism Company Limited (Ca Mau). The project was started in 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2013.

Phase 2 of the project with the remaining 52 pillars is expected to be completed by 2014. At that time, Bac Lieu Wind Power Project was not only the first wind power project in the Mekong Delta but became the largest wind power project in Vietnam.

According to the General Director of the Vietnam Development Bank, after the above two phases of the Bac Lieu wind power plant project, the bank will continue to invest to build another 300 columns of turbines with the total capacity up to 480MW, which is 4 times larger than the capacity of stage 1 and 2 combined.

The birth of Bac Lieu wind power plant is a testament to its abundant potential, signaling a "golden opportunity" of Vietnam's wind power industry. Because the State has a policy to develop this power source and has set specific goals and roadmap in the Power Plan VII. Accordingly, wind energy is considered the most important source of electricity generation, will be developed from the current negligible level to about 1,000 MW in 2020 and 6,200 MW in 2030.
