Earthquake 'rips' roads in New Zealand

The new 6.2-magnitude quake struck New Zealand's South Island on November 14, hours after a 7.8-magnitude quake struck.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that the initial earthquake had a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale, occurring at 13:45, local time at a depth of 10km, 120km east of Christchurch. north. New Zealand police confirmed that at least one person was killed in the earthquake on Monday morning (November 14).

One person was killed in a collapsed building in Kaikoura, police said in a statement.

Earlier, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake also struck the area, killing two people and destroying many buildings along the coast. According to USGS, the magnitude 7 earthquake occurred at midnight and had an epicenter about 90km north of Christchurch.
