Figure 30 m long monster sticking tongue on the Peruvian plateau

Japanese scientists discovered a new giant figure on the Nazca plateau in Peru, depicting the shape of a multi-legged beast with a long tongue sticking out.

With a length of 30m, the figure is located in the central part of the Nazca Plateau , a large, flat and arid region between the Andes and the coast. The painting depicts a speckled animal sticking out its tongue. "This picture certainly describes an imaginary or legendary creature , " said researcher Masato Sakai of Yamagata University in Japan.

Last year, Sakai's team headed to find more than a dozen pictures of giant animals in the same area through stereoscopic ground scans. This time, they saw a new drawing when walking on the Nazca Plateau."Because the figure is located right on the mountain side, we can easily see it from the ground," Discovery News quoted Sakai.

Famed for its giant drawings of animals and birds, the Nazca civilization flourished in Peru from the 1st century BC to the 7th century, then declined when the Inca empire rose and invaded the range. Andes.

The researchers estimated that the figure was discovered at the end of the Paracas period (200-400 BC). The drawing applied a different technique to the majority of the Nazca lines, depicted on white ground under the oxidized black gravel of the plateau.

"This figure is created by removing dark stones on the surface, revealing the white soil below. The moving stone is then piled up to form an animal-like form of a religion." , Sakai said.

According to Sakai, the animal figure can be associated with the large Cahuachi sacrificial center, which contains about 40 mounds of earth with a structure of live bricks piled up.

"We discovered another picture in 2011, not far from where the new figure was found. It was created from the same technique and illustrated the beheading of two human figures , " Sakai said. The beginning is a popular activity for the Nazca people. They treat human heads as trophies used in sacrificial activities.
