Microsoft's MSN Web portal has announced that it has set a new world record for the largest online public audience, when the network's Live Earth concert program has attracted more than 10 million viewers.
" This is an unprecedented number of viewers for an online concert or broadcast ," MSN representative said.
As an initiative of former US Vice President Al Gore, Live Earth concerts were held simultaneously in various cities around the world, covering all continents, from Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai to Hamburg, Johannesburg, London, Washington, New Jersey and Rio de Janeiro.
Source: AP The program lasts more than 22 hours, is broadcast live on television and the Internet, with the aim of stirring up public opinion and raising awareness of the world about global warming and the environment being pollution.
" 10 million unique visitors are a remarkable milestone for direct Internet TV, " said Joanne Bradford, vice president and communications director of MSN.
Previously, holding the record for the highest viewer rate was AOL's Live 8 concert online show. At that time, AOL said it had attracted 5 million viewers.
