1.3 million USD to improve Vietnam's scientific capacity

On the afternoon of January 24, United Nations Development Program UNDP and Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations have signed a project "Capacity building for Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations". Price of $ 1,375,000 funded by UNDP at the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

The objective of the project is to improve the capacity of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (LHH), to better represent the interests of member organizations in contributing to the Government's policy making; Strengthening the organizational structure for internal management and improving the effectiveness of support activities of VUSTA; Acting as an effective bridge in regulating and coordinating the activities of member organizations, building sustainable relationships among members with the Government and with international organizations .

GS.VS Vu Tuyen Hoang - Chairman of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations said: "This is an important event marking a turning point in the cooperation between UNDP and VUSTA. This cooperation is not only aims to improve the capacity of VUSTA but also directly contribute to mobilizing the resources of Vietnam, of civil society organizations, to realize the goal that Vietnam committed to participate ".

At the signing ceremony, Ms. Setsuko Yamazaki - representative of the United Nations Development Program UNDP also stressed that "Vietnam is a country that is gaining a foothold in the world, something unprecedented. With Vietnam becoming a member full of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and earlier in the month, Vietnam became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council . UNPD understands that diverse organizations such as the Union of Science and Technology Associations Vietnamese art has a key meaning in bringing knowledge and experience to the Government in order to create and implement effective policies ".

Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam - Director of the Non-Governmental Department - Ministry of Home Affairs expected that after implementing the project, there will be changes in both quantity and quality, improving the capacity of domestic science and technology, contributing to indeed for the economic development of the country.

It is known that the starting time of the project is from March 3, lasting for three years from 2008 to 2011.
