All three scientists are currently working at US universities.
Professor Jeffrey C. Hall is teaching at Maine University while Michael Rosbash is teaching at Brandeis University in Waltham and Professor Michael Young is currently teaching at Rockefeller University in New York.
Before the award ceremony, Sweden's SR public radio predicted the Nobel Prize for Biomedical Medicine could be given to researchers who found a way to treat hepatitis C. They include German scientist Ralf Bartenschlager two Americans Charles Rice and Michael Sofia. This trio also won Lasker, one of the major international awards in medicine, in 2016 on a similar project.

Since 1901, the Nobel Committee has awarded the Biomedical Prize to 106 individuals and collectives. However, only 12 women won this award.
Last year, the 2016 Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to Japanese scientist Yoshinori Ohsumi for his work on self-realization (self-feeding) and cell regeneration. Mr. Ohsumi was born in 1945 in Fukuoka (Japan) and is currently a professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology.
The youngest person to receive this honor is Frederick Banting (1891 - 1941). He received the prize at age 32 with his research on insulin. Meanwhile, the oldest scientist who received the award was Peyton Rous (1879-1970) at the age of 87 thanks to his research on cancer-causing viruses.
The following awards will be published, including Physics (October 3), Chemistry (October 4), Peace (October 6) and Economics (October 9). The committee has not yet set a date to award the Nobel Prize for Literature.
