30m long 'Destroyer' monster discovered in Argentina

The four monsters that have just appeared belong to a species that has never been known in the world.

According to Sci-News, the new species named Bustingorrytitan shiva has appeared in the Patagonia region of Argentina, a famous territory for giant beasts.

Fossil remains of at least four individuals have been collected by paleontologists. They are all oversized bones, dating back up to 95 million years, which means they belong to the Cretaceous period.

In it, a relatively complete skeleton has helped scientists draw an accurate picture of this beast when it was still wandering in what is now South America.

Bustingorrytitan shiva belongs to the group of "Titanosaurs". It is the largest dinosaur in the world, characterized by a very long neck and four legs as big as pillars.

According to a detailed report just published in the scientific journal Acta Palaeontologica Polonica , calculations show that this new species must have weighed an average of 67.3 tons when alive.

The world's largest titanosaur is Argentinosaurus, which weighed about 70 tons.

Bustingorrytitan is a combination of the surname of farmer Manuel Bustingorry, the owner of the land where the beast rests, with "Titan" - the name of a group of giant gods in Greek mythology.

Therefore, they are one of the largest species in the titanosaur group.

According to Dr. María Edith Simón, the paleontologist leading the international research team, the discovery of this beast in an area called Northern Patagonia in southern South America, proves that this place is indeed the territory of the lizard group. The giant lizard is oversized, with a body weight of over 50 tons.

Patagonia is a geographical region that includes the southernmost part of South America, covering parts of Argentina and Chile. In particular, the "Destroyer" monster is located in the Patagonia part of the Neuquén province of Argentina.

The first remains were exposed in 2000, but it took paleontologists many years to excavate the giant bones and analyze them.

Dr. Simón said she was in charge of the laboratory and research area at the nearby Ernesto Bachmann Museum of Paleontology at the time the beast appeared, so has been organizing excavations since 2001.

Over the years, they found the remains of at least four individuals of the new species, including a relatively complete skeleton and three incomplete specimens.

This new beast comes from the Huincul Formation , which is between 93 million and 96 million years old, which is also where the "monster king" Argentinosaurus was found.

As such, it is also a representative of the golden age of dinosaurs: the Cretaceous period.

This lineage of beasts is said to have existed until the end of the Cretaceous period, when the Chicxulub asteroid collided with Earth and ended the existence of all dinosaurs, pterosaurs, mosasaurs, ichthyosaurs. ancient.

Before Bustingorrytitan shiva, up to four species of titanosaurs weighing 50 tons or more were found in Patagonia.

Titan lizards are the largest branch of the Sauropod family, a group of large dinosaurs characterized by long necks, large and heavy bodies, four legs as bulky as pillars, and equally long and heavy tails. Although giant, Sauropods were herbivores.
