A cargo ship broke apart because of Typhoon Bolaven at South Korea's Sacheon port.
The Korean Central News Agency, KCNA, yesterday reported that Typhoon Bolaven destroyed more than 6,700 houses and spilled over 16,700 trees. The total area of crops is devastated by storms to more than 50,000 hectares.
After spilling over Japan, Bolaven stormed into the west of the Korean peninsula. In Korea, typhoons carry heavy rain and strong winds, causing 16 deaths, traffic disruptions and widespread power outages.
Bolaven stormed Korea in the wake of a flood of June and July floods that left 169 dead, more than 400 missing and more than 212,000 homeless. Pyongyang urged the World Food Program to provide emergency food aid after floods.
