8 people were killed by severe floods in Ecuador
Ecuadorian officials on March 3 said at least eight people were killed in a long-term heavy rain flood that occurred in the coastal province of Guayas, in the southwestern part of the country.
Guayas provincial governor, Viviana Bonilla, said that among eight victims, six were killed by electrocution, one was drowned and the eighth victim was a child swept away by the flood and believed to have died .
Heavy rains started from the afternoon of March 2 and lasted until the morning of March 3, causing all local flights to be canceled due to electrical problems.
Ms. Bonilla also said the Guayas rescue team has been mobilized to take care of victims caused by floods, landslides and traffic accidents.
Local officials confirmed that heavy flooding has been warned in this area and that the number of people killed by floods may increase.
