Leading sources from government officials, IANS news agency reported on Sept. 12 that in the state of Assam, floodwaters surged, forcing about 300,000 people in 250 villages to leave their homes to reach higher places. Kaziranga National Park, home to the world's largest number of rhino horns, is also submerged in water.

In the capital New Delhi, heavy rains flood many roads leading to wide-area traffic jams. Rain also caused the water level of Yamuna River in the capital to rise, causing nearly 2,000 people living along the river to evacuate.

According to IANS, rescue and relief workers are working hard to help flood victims, while many local agencies are put on high alert. According to the regional weather agency forecast, rain will continue to pour down today 13-9.

The rainy season in India lasts from June to October every year. According to official statistics, up to now, 742 people have died due to the effects of floods. Nearly 5.2 million others are affected.
