India: 41 people died from floods

Indian authorities said on Tuesday that heavy downpours and flash floods over the past three days in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh have killed at least 41 people and forced 55,000 others to leave the house to evacuate.

From the night of June 21, rainfall reaches approximately 200mm in the lower sea level areas of Andhra Pradesh state. In an interview with the press, State Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy said the most serious damage was Kurnool district. Twenty-one people in this southwestern district died of swept away by flash floods.

According to statistics, natural disasters have destroyed roads, railways and waterways throughout the state. The regional electricity and communication supply network is also interrupted. The state disaster control commissioner's office issued a statement stating that more than 55,000 local residents were evacuated to the government's temporary temporary refugee camps of 95.

Hydro-meteorological experts predict heavy rain will continue in the next two days.

Every year, India loses hundreds of lives because of the harsh weather. More than 100 people were killed because of the heat wave earlier this month in the northern region of the country.
