A beautiful set of photos about Vietnamese peoples in American newspapers

Business Insider published a series of works by French photographer Réhahn capturing Vietnamese ethnic minorities.

Réhahn has recorded images of Vietnam's ethnic minorities during the past 5 years. He is French but now lives with his family in Hoi An, Central Vietnam.

He said the precious Heritage Collection project is his most typical work because it is not easy to photograph ethnic groups. Photographers said he sometimes takes 2 days to find the village of a people.

The Brau people only have about 397 people.

Réhahn photographed 40 ethnic groups and predicted it would take another two years to complete his collection. He said the villages are often located deep in the mountains, with little information about the way to go there, when meeting ethnic people, Réhahn spends time listening to the stories of the village elder and taking pictures of where they live.

He said that their eyes brightened when he showed him traditional costumes and told about the culture of his people. Older people feel sad when the pride of their cultural heritage is no longer in the younger generation. French photographers hope to help convey awareness of these special peoples.

Réhahn said most ethnic minorities are very proud of their culture, but there are people, both old and young, who do not value that heritage. Réhahn hopes that when those people see their culture through another lens, they will understand the importance of this.

This 78-year-old woman is the last person in Vietnam to still make the O Du traditional costume.In the world, only about 500 people belong to the O Du ethnic group.

In the project, Réhahn also collected traditional costumes. He wanted to open a national cultural museum in Hoi An to display photos, costumes and stories of people he met.
