A third of Net users
Up to one-third of current Internet users in the United States regularly surf the web and check email through wireless connectivity, a manifestation of the trend of "mobility" becoming increasingly apparent in the technology world.
The latest poll conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project shows that about 34% of Internet users are online via Wi-Fi or mobile networks. Another 27% also access the network from a location other than their home or office.
Source: unex.es Back in February 2004, only 22% of Internet users said they were online from a wireless device only.
Up to 19% of respondents said they installed a wireless network at home, nearly doubling that of January 2005. At that time, only 10% said their home had a Wi-Fi network only. At home of this 19%, laptops are used as "mainstream" tools, while desktop computers are virtually shelved.
One in four Internet users has one who says their mobile phone has access to the network. Among web-phone owners, 54% said they used to go online this way.
Approximately 13% of users own a PDA, and more than half of them ever surf the Web or check mail with this device, even if they are sitting in the office or lying down.
