Picture 1 of Mozilla recommends that users upgrade Firefox Mozilla, yesterday (July 26), recommended Firefox users should upgrade to version 1.5.0.5 to fix some security flaws.

Mozilla's recommendation is broadcast in a message to all users of the open source web browser via a pop-up window that pops up when using the browser.

Chris Beard, Mozilla's vice president of product, said the Firefox 1.5.0.5 browser upgrade is part of Mozilla's regular stability and security update program.

" The upgrade version proactively fixes a variety of security, performance and stability issues ," Beard said. " Users can use Firefox's Automatic Update feature to upgrade the browser in about 1 to 2 days ."

Version v1.5.0.5 has nothing to do with Firefox v2.0 version currently in Mozilla's testing phase.

About Firefox 2.0

On July 12, Mozilla released a beta version of Firefox 2 Beta 1 with some anti-phishing testing tool features, spell-checking, and a number of other improved features.

Mozilla's spokesperson affirmed that Firefox 2 Beta 1 is just a preview version for developers and for testing purposes only. Firefox 2 Beta 1 targets web application developers and testing communities. Users should not upgrade to this version.

Anti-phishing tools in Firefox 2 will warn users if they access a site that is suspected of being used for phishing purposes. The spell checker tool will help quickly check the main error of returning data entered into web forms.

Researchers say Mozilla's market share of Firefox has reached 16% in the US market.
