Abdominal distention - a sign of being overlooked in cervical cancer

More than half of women with cervical cancer face a diagnosis of late death, researchers have warned . That's because many doctors often ignore important signs that help diagnose the disease early.

The disease now affects 7,000 women each year, dubbed the "silent killer" , because its symptoms are often diagnosed too late.

Writing in the British Medical Journal , a team from Bristol University warned doctors may have missed a basic symptom of cervical cancer, because it is not included in the current guidelines for In case of urgent test: it is a phenomenon of abdominal distention.

According to DailyMail , women with abdominal distention should be tested immediately, because people with this symptom are twice as likely to get cervical cancer. Meanwhile, current recommendations only stop at the symptoms of abnormal bleeding or palpable soft mass.

The study looked at 212 women aged 40 and older and examined in 39 polyclinics, compared to 1,000 healthy women.

The 4 most common symptoms are abdominal distention, pain, bleeding and loss of appetite . Other symptoms are frequent urination, constipation or diarrhea, abnormal bleeding, weight loss and fatigue.

However, some women report signs of abdominal distention, frequent urination and abdominal pain must wait at least 6 months for a formal diagnosis.
