Amazed fish that know how to catch prey on land

The killi fish have many unusual characteristics, can even catch land on land.

Fish know how to catch prey on land

In Africa and South America, killi fish must adapt to water shortages and the amount of water in the rivers and lakes varies considerably according to the season. Fish hatch from eggs usually in the rainy season, when the lake is full of water. They quickly mature and lay eggs continuously until the lakes dry up and die. Koi are not as mature as other fish, many species only live within one year, even under three months.

Eggs can survive the dry season in a resting state, the embryos stop growing, waiting for the next rainy season. This cycle is repeated and often very short. Turquoise killers (Nothobranchius furzeri) in equatorial Africa have an average life span of only 10 weeks .

Fish that live in mangrove areas (Kryptolebias marmoratus) have both male and female reproductive organs on the same individual. These fish belong to the only vertebrate species known for their bisexual reproductive characteristics , self-fertilization and self-replication. This fish is also mainly inhaled through the skin.

According to BBC, this fish can adapt to the environment without water, live and hunt on land, even they are found in trees. The test results showed that they were on land for 66 days.

When on land, they move by twisting their bodies, knocking their tails to the ground to create force. In this way, the fish can "pop up" to catch prey. In the laboratory, scientists have observed that they use this technique to catch crickets and insects above.
