Gou, the name of a Taiwanese fisherman, discovered the paddle fish in the waters near Seaside park in Taitung district. After more than 40 minutes of struggling with an animal with a weight of 60kg and a length of more than 5m, Gou just put it on the boat. Amazed by the size of the animal, Gou was forced to ask many friends to bring the fish to the village, United Daily News reported.

This is one of those rare times when people catch a giant paddle fish. They are animals that live in deep waters, rarely appearing in shallow waters.

In China, people call Dizhenyu paddle fish or earthquake fish because their bodies often drift ashore before and after the earthquakes. People have discovered the body of paddle fish after the earthquake accompanied by a terrible tsunami in Japan in 2011 and in the 8.8 magnitude seismic in Chile in 2010.

However, people in California and the United States also caught two paddle fishes earlier this month but then earthquakes did not occur in this area. In fact, scientists have not been able to prove the connection between paddle fish and earthquakes.
