AMD expects to sell 46 million microprocessors in 2006
AMD has focused on selling 26 million processors in the second half of this year, bringing the total to 46 million CPUs in the 2006 plan.
In the first quarter alone, and in the second quarter of this year, AMD sold 10 million and 9.5 million processors, respectively. The number of exported goods increased due to high demand for AM2 socket chips.
Market research companies said that in 2006, about 141 million processors will be shipped. Of these, AMD (46 million CPUs) will account for about 32%; the rest will be Intel and other "giants".
To achieve the above target, starting two months ago, AMD had a policy to encourage Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers to import the company's processors.
AMD also plans to ship about 12 million processors to laptops in 2006, accounting for about 15% of the total CPU market for laptops.
