The site was opened in March by the Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) under pressure from Republican MPs. They argue that these documents will make people clearly see the dangers of Iraq before the US forces enter the country.

Negroponte's office announced the closure of the website after the New York Times quoted experts as saying the site began to include " the most basic guidelines for making a nuclear bomb ".

US intelligence officials will also investigate to determine who has read the document.

Many foreign experts and diplomats feel stunned about the information posted on the US government website. An official at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said inspectors were " horrified at the content on this website " and expressed concern with the US representative. However, Washington says the US has not received any criticism or objections from the IAEA.

Doubts about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and former President Saddam Hussein connected to the terrorist network al-Qaeda have helped America with an excuse to carry out the war in Iraq. However, the US cannot find any destructive weapons in this Gulf country.
